The Nationalist Monthly has remained the primary magazine for Pakistani Nationalists residing in North America for the past 2 years. It is available for distribution across the United States and Canada chapters of the Pakistan Nationalist Association and has been the only magazine available for members of all the various movements in these two countries. It allows Nationalists to stay updated on current news events concerning Pakistan expressed from a Nationalist outlook and about events impacting their own community. It is published in Canada. However recently certain members have expressed reservations over the content being too Canada focused. Zarir, a key member of the Pakistan Nationalist Association residing in Newyork, United States has been the most outspoken of these.

In an open letter addressed to the Canada Chapter of the Pakistan Nationalist Association Zarir Khalid has requested for changes to be made in the content appearing in the Nationalist Monthly. Zarir’s work mostly involves sending money back to Pakistan for various social projects and is known more often as a sponsor for certain various organizations social activity rather than an active worker of the movement. However his influence in the movement has grown in the past two years with his increased donations to humanitarian aid groups.

In the letter he writes “Instead of focusing on Pakistani politics and Nationalist activity in Pakistan where it actually matters the magazine seems obsessed about what members did in Canada, events taking place in Toronto where the Nationalist community is involved and other chapter specific information no one really cares about”

Information gathered at our Toronto office in Thorncliffe further reinforces what Zarir has said. Many members have expressed their dissatisfaction with the information provided in the magazine claiming it is sometimes irrelevant to what they are actually looking for. Ahmed a Toronto based member says “What we want in the Nationalist Monthly and on the website is Pakistan related information. We want to stay updated about what’s going on there because helping Pakistan is our goal. To achieve that goal we need to know about each and every single thing that takes place in Pakistan.”

Another member Ali backs Ahmed up. “We already know about the events taking place here as we are invited to them anyway. Every event that takes place in Toronto, we are a part of it. We are closely connected with Nationalism in Canada but the problem is staying updated on Pakistan. I will not be treated like a “burger” outsider when I return to my own country. The information in the Nationalist Monthly needs to be more Pakistan centric. As for the website it needs to be broader and should have more regular postings.”

Zarir further adds. “To be clear the Canada chapter is made up of about 250 Nationalists all divided amongst various organizations. The majority of members, about 9000 of them are in Pakistan so clearly that’s where we should be focusing on. The writers of the magazine may be in Canada but they must remember they are writing about Pakistan not the Canada Chapter of the Pakistan Nationalist Association.”

At the same time Zarir has also gone further to criticize the Pakistan Nationalists Associations web effort describing it as extremely shallow. “I mean the entire site is filled with praise for certain Canadian or British chapter members, information about long forgotten death threats which are again an exclusively Canada-chapter issue, and articles written about certain topics related to Pakistan’s current affairs by a small group of writers with the same names appearing constantly one of which is the Chapter head. It’s just surprising how shallow the content is and over-focused it is with the Canada Chapter even though its the only site run by Nationalists. It’s actually surprising you are thinking of buying a domain. There should be a detailed report on every event that takes place in Pakistan and it should be turned into a news source so that rather than reading the propaganda of the Times daily we can read something worth our time.”

Endgame

All these views are not new and have been stated in the past but no changes have been made to the content citing the fact that there is a vacuum of information arriving from Pakistan due to a lack of magazine reporters in Pakistan. There have also been limited writers for both the magazine and web effort. However everyone agrees it may well be time for at least some changes in the Nationalist Monthly allowing for the inclusion of more Pakistan centric information that replaces the Canada chapter based information. This specially stands true as the latest information reveals the Nationalist Monthly has been gaining a small readership in Pakistan as well.

The Yawm  E Pakistan Mela is being hosted at Pak Mahal II, in Karachi at 5 pm and most guests will start arriving after 7pm. Although there has been some agitation to shift the event to Islamabad by some members who will be unable to visit if it is not this will not happen as the venue had been decided for almost three months giving ample time to members for preparation.

Food will be served and entry is free for all Nationalists who will be able to prove their identity. The ID cards must be shown at the gates in order to gain entrance. A card includes details such as the Organization the member serves the country under, the chapter the holder serves it under specially in the case of Pakistan Nationalist Association which has now gone public and of course the Name and Identity Number of the holder. The card will be in a card holder held by a thin cord attached around the users neck at all times  to identify him or her.

This is a sample card for our readers benefit.

Discipline

Although the environment will be celebratory and Nationalists are always extremely emotional about this one day no pushing and shoving through crowds or fighting will be tolerated and discipline must be maintained at all costs. The Nationalist Race has a responsibility to serve as an example to the entire Nation in not just its words and policy but its actions as well especially now as are activities are being made public on our own accord. As members of the Nationalist organizations that have served the country with their blood when the necessity arose we must remember that we represent hope and order where chaos and selfishness exists. In light of this please be reminded that rowdiness will be awarded only by the person of group of persons being thrown out of Pak Mahal II and banished from joining any Nationalist Organization ever again. The Nationalists are members of professional organizations seeking to end the culture of indiscipline currently prevalent in Pakistan. For this the leadership is willing to go to any length. Pakistanis need to understand that laws are to be obeyed and maintaining order is a sacred duty as citizens of the Nation.

Shows and Events

Due to this great gathering of Nationalist minds a large number of shows and events have been planned out at Pak Mahal II.Due to this a stage has been set up replacing the lawn that used to be there. This stage will be used for a number of shows.

A guard force of 30 soldiers will be performing and displaying some of their martial arts skills showcasing the skills they have and entertaining jubilant crowds with wild acrobatic acts.  After this  models from the Nationalist community will don new clothes and outfits revealing the newer trends in the World of fashion. Other than this the Nationalist band “Mashal” coming all the way from Canada will be performing along with host bands “Inqilaab” from Karachi and “Saaya” from Lahore. The best band will be given a prize.

If this is not enough a collection of newly acquired Nationalist arms, ammunition and weaponry will be displayed in glass enclosures in the upper hall where the old library used to be. This is likely to be a great boon for the gunslingers and Military men in our midst. Clearly many Nationalists would be keen to try the weapons out to ensure they will be useful for the defense of the country in the case of danger to the country however this cannot be allowed with such a huge crowd and accidents can occur in these cases. Therefore no use of firearms is permitted on the premises and anyone breaking the rules will be expelled from the Pakistan Nationalist Association. The only people carrying firearms on the premises will be the Guardsmen of the Security Company hired to maintain peace and order. It would seem unacceptable to certain more traditional members that outsiders control the guardsmen maintaining peace at an event that is managed by Nationalists but please  note that a Nationalist General owns the company responsible for the security of this event.

Finally since more than 1000 Nationalists are expected to be gathered at a single place large though it may be in size Nuzab will be giving a speech and addressing the entire membership of the Pakistan Nationalist Association along with all other Nationalist Fronts taking part in the event. Clearly there is no better chance for a leader to adress the coming generation other than when they are all gathered at one place rare as it may be.

Sponsors

The main sponsors of this event are the Pakistan Nationalist Association, Azadi Unit, Pakistan National Forums, and Pakistan Nationalist Force.

Pakistan Nationalist Association with the help of a huge contribution from Lord Zerab Salamat has served Pakistan in a variety of ways for a very long time. It is well known from the other social work and Nationalist activities carried out in the past while at the same time it is one of the largest Nationalist Organizations.

Azadi Unit is a powerful movement trying to build a sense of responsibility within the Pakistani community and remind them with what great sacrifices this land came to be. They do no social work such as building or maintaining schools or health care facilities like the PNA but they do host a lot of events that remind Pakistanis of their responsibilities and build up a sense of National Pride.

On the other hand Pakistan National Forums is just a forum for the discussion of Pakistans problems and how to solve them currently operating only in Pakistan while the Pakistan Nationalist Force is the private force for the protection of Nationalist properties and assets and of course a force ready to defend the country till death, each member having sworn that he would fight till the last breathe if his country is invaded.

The Pakistan Nationalist Force is the crown of Pakistani Nationalism and is the pride of every Nationalist. Apparently the inept government has given permission for it to operate due to pressure from Nationalist Generals and Nationalist members within the government but the strong support from the 12000 strong Nationalists and the groups very heavy links with the military makes it difficult for them to withdraw their decision and dismiss the Force as they see the force ensure that only National Interest prevails.

Organizers

Though this might be a Nationalist dominated event the organizers it seems will not be from amongst our organizations. The people organizing this event and ensuring this ends up being a smooth event that brings both entertainment to our members  and renewed vigor to the organizations are the Rehman Faisal group. Though they have little to do with Nationalism or Nationalists they are professional event organizers. This has been a necessity as Nationalists lack the capability and know how to host such a large event especially due to the fact that the movements have refused to come out in the public in the past and this is the first time such a huge event is being hosted.

Update: There is a very slight possibility due to the huge number of Nationalists expected to be attending this event that the venue for the event may be changed to Meher Hall instead of Pak Mahal II especially in the case that Pak Mahal cannot hold such a huge amount of people even if the gates are opened and a crowd is accommodated on the street outside. If this change does take place members will be informed. However this site is the best way to remain updated.

“You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State.”

Quaid E Azam, (Hazrat) Mohammed Ali Jinnah

The most respected and righteous Leader of Pakistan the Great Quaid E Azam was always in the favour of providing minorities equal rights as the citizens of the Pakistani State. How much or how little the Quaid E Azams vision is being implemented remains a subject that is ferociously being debated today. Nonetheless one thing is clear. Christians in Pakistan today are fighting for acceptance and recognition as a patriotic community amongst Pakistan’s highly emotional Muslim majority.

The Christian community in Pakistan which numbers anywhere from 2.8 Million according to the government and 15 Million according to some Pakistani Christian Organizations have constantly been fighting a bitter war for acceptance and recognition as a patriotic community that has rendered supreme sacrifice for the country. The great accomplishments of National Christian heroes such as Justice Alvin Robert Cornelius, Air Vice Marshal Eric Hall, Group Captain Cecil Chaudhry, Wing Commander Mervyn Middlecoat shine as an example of the commitment of not just Christians but in general minorities towards Pakistan.

Unfortunately these sacrifices and many others made by the Pakistani Christians have often been glossed over or even ignored. Since this is the case in Pakistan it may be the case in the Pakistani Nationalist Organizations as well. This is the reason some Christians have been vouching for a separate Christian Nationalist Wing within the PNA.

The Nationalist stand on Minority Rights

Due to the regrettable attitude of some members who overdo patriotism to the limit of ignorance some people may see the Nationalists as denialists of reality who are trying to refuse any responsibility for mistakes of the past made by Pakistanis and are unwilling to admit any wrong occurs in Pakistan. This is absolutely untrue.

Quoting from the Rules and Regulations, Nationalist Ideology section of the Pakistan Nationalist Association, Article 36B clearly states that it is our duty to find and point out our internal flaws and weaknesses and put in every ounce of strength to solve the problems within. This includes the poor state of minorities in the country which are faced with increased intolerance in the tough times Pakistan faces today.

The above stated article stands true however the one place the Nationalists take an extremely tough stand is when it comes to foreign relations as stated in all of Article 54 and Article 55A and B. This is where the criticism of US foreign policy and our traditional arch rivals comes from. As far as the traditional Pakistani point of view is concerned it is not baseless criticism.

So to put things in perspective the Nationalist philosophy focuses on pointing out and solving the problems within the country with none or minimal foreign interference especially that which sacrifices our interests while at the same time showing Unity and standing up to foreign hypocrisy and aggression against our motherland. This is the backbone of the Nationalist ideology.

This clears up the Nationalist Stand on Minority Rights. The inhumane Hudood Ordinance and the vaguely phrased Blasphemy Laws which are against the instructions of the Quaid E Azam himself are two laws that Leaders backed by our members have continually been waging war against. The Pakistan Nationalist Association’s goal along with many of its other goals is to work for the absolute elimination of Sections 153A, 295A, 295B, 295C, 298A, 298B and 298C from Pakistan’s Criminal code which are biased towards Pakistan’s minorities.

As such the Pakistan Nationalist Association proposes no religious affiliations and presents itself as Secular. This is the reason why members belonging to minorities make up over 800 of PNA’s members.

A Christian Wing: A tall order

Today some secularists and Christians are demanding a separate Christian Wing within the Pakistan Nationalist Association. This demand has widely been seen as hypocrisy by the more religious Muslim members the reason being that Islamic thought process has sometimes been suppressed when it comes to decision making in the various Nationalist Organizations, especially from the Left Wing.

According to the terms and conditions of Pakistan Nationalist Association itself religion is to have as minimal a role in our decision making process as is humanely possible. This has caused the PNA to avoid working on items that have too much to do with Islam and in general religion.  This was made clear when a distant Pakistani came to a rich Nationalist Community Leader in Britain asking for a charity to be organized by the Pakistani community for a mosque to be built for the Pakistani community in Bradford. The leader denied taking any part in this and spent his money instead on educating poor children in Pakistan.

Almost all would agree that this policy should work both ways. This is why a separate Christian Wing when none is allowed for Muslims is likely to raise a great number of eyebrows and is very likely to hurt the pride of not only the more religious Muslims but also the Seculars that are a part of the Nationalist Organizations. This is what makes a separate wing in the name of religion a controversial task and according to many an impossible task.

A solution that appeases all

We know very well that minorities still do not have many of the equal rights the Quaid E Azam had envisioned for them. Admitting that we still need to march towards a Pakistan where each and every individual is treated equally without religion, creed or ethnicity playing a factor it may be sensible to set up a Minorities Wing to balance the situation and give a voice to minorities within the Pakistan Nationalist Association, showcase and highlight the sacrifices including the great achievements of Christians and members of other minority communities for the country.

Although some Christians are proposing it it’s understood that a special Christian Wing even within the Pakistan Nationalist Association may be seen as a huge flouting of rules and may create an uproar even in the Secular environment that Nationalists are used to. However since the policy papers themselves clearly state that it is a duty of Nationalists to solve the problems within the country and these same papers clearly admit that minorities do have issues within the country with increasing intolerance and vague, biased laws it is necessary to take steps to balance the situation.

A solution that appeases both the traditionalists who want no religious affiliations and the Minorities of Pakistan can definitely be a special Minority Wing within the Pakistan Nationalist Association. This should be completely controlled and dominated my minorities themselves since the community involved is best at dealing with their issues however anyone who wants to help can volunteer.

Since the organization will be a Sub organization within the PNA the Nationalist principles will naturally not be sacrificed. Therefore this is the best way to give minorities a voice and empowering them a little more in order to change the constitution of Pakistan to what it was in 1948 under the visionary Quaid E Azam.
